Two Valley British expats planning Royal Wedding watch party

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Two Valley ladies are going all out for the Royal Wedding by hosting a watch party fit for a queen.

Both Jemma Kennedy and Kirsty Lucas are from across the Pond, and actually moved next door to each other a few years back. When the Royal Wedding was announced, they knew they had to celebrate.

The two are expected 60 people for their massive Royal Wedding watch party, and the invitations are already out. Prepping for the party, however, isn't easy, but Kennedy and Lucas have things well under control.

"We're all very proud. Britain is a very proud country. We're very proud to be British," said Kennedy.

The two have been planning their watch party celebration for days, and the home is filled with red white and blue, and of course, countless Union Jacks. The two are hoping their party is next best thing to being at St. George's Chapel for the big day.

"They'll be photo booths with props, we've got a coloring table the kids set up, we have contest for the best drawn Union Jack, and they're is going to be a trivia quiz on your British knowledge," said Kennedy.

Typically when planning a party, the most important part is what guests will be eating. Guests at this party can expect to eat traditional British treats and of course, sip on some tea.

Lucas is responsible for the Victoria Sponge Cake and other snacks.

"Cheese and pineapple on a stick and the little tiny sausages. Cream scones with double cream and jam," said Lucas.

"So, what I'll be doing is like angel food cake whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries, more angel cake," said Kennedy. "Or white cake with a Union Jack on the top."

Both ladies can't wait until tomorrow to watch Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot. They have high hopes for the couple who they say is breaking with tradition.

"He's just the type of lad that he'd pick the right one," said Kennedy. "It's taken him a while, but I think she's great."

Lucas is most excited to see the dress, but for Kennedy, it's the crowds and scenery. Aside from this party, the girls get together every Thursday night to eat traditional British food, and watch British shows.
