USDA launches military hiring program for veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses

The Brief

    • The USDA launched an initiative to recruit veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses into mission-critical careers.
    • The department expanded its SkillBridge partnership and introduced a "100 Hires in 100 Days" hiring campaign.
    • Officials said the effort will strengthen agricultural security while creating new career opportunities for military families.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced an initiative designed to recruit veterans, transitional service members, and military spouses into roles to help protect America’s food supply, agriculture security and rural communities. 

The initiative combines the Defense Department’s SkillBridge Program and the launch of USDA’s "100 Hires in 100 Days" campaign.

"America’s service members have spent their careers protecting our nation, and USDA is proud to offer them a new mission after they leave the military: protecting American agriculture," U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins.

The SkillBridge Program will allow active-duty service members to spend up to their final 180 days gaining civilian work experience in fields like cybersecurity, AI, finance, and wildland fire management.

SkillBridge opportunities are currently available within approximately 75 miles of USDA’s major employment hubs in Fort Collins, Colorado; Indianapolis, Indiana; Kansas City, Missouri; Raleigh, North Carolina; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Washington, D.C.

Alongside SkillBridge, "100 Hires in 100 Days" is a department-wide campaign to expedite veteran hiring.
