Volleyball tournament brings hundreds to Glendale
GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Three-hundred and thirty teams from across the west and more than 200 from Arizona are competing for the number one spot.
"It's very fun because a lot of the teams are very competitive and it's fun to play them," Natalie Jones said.
Over the long weekend, the Festival Fiesta Classic Volleyball Tournament brought in hundreds of players and spectators to the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Bryan Kelley is the tournament president and he says the tournament gives them bragging rights, and a free entry to several national tournaments.
"This is club sports, so typically girls compete with their high schools and then the one's who want to compete all year round, and are a little more serious about it, join a club and compete through the June time frame," he said.
"We really want to win and we practice very hard for this and our coach will take us out for ice cream if we win," Brooke Charpio said. "We do a lot of conditioning and we do a lot of drills to make us better, technical and better in games.
The captain of the Arizona Storm 12 Thunder says it's all about getting the opposition riled up.
"Try to make everybody excited and very intense, just to keep us all upbeat," Natalie Jones said.
