Warnings of scam calls from people impersonating MCSO employees
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Officials with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office are warning of scam calls, after several Maricopa County residents and MCSO staff members have reported phone calls from people impersonating MCSO employees.
According to a statement released Thursday, the caller would state that immediate action must be taken for a criminal warrant being issued, money owed to MCSO for missed jury duty, or an unpaid fine. The caller would ask the person targeted to send money via money order, or to meet them at MCSO to collect payment.
According to MCSO, they do not ask for money over the phone, or request to meet anyone in person to take their money. Anyone receiving an unusual phone call from a phone number they do not recognize, with the caller identifying themselves as MCSO staff are asked to never provide their personal information, and report the phone call by calling (602) 876-1011.
