Witnesses save teen from burning car in Carrollton

A 17-year-old teen is lucky to be alive after police said he lost control of his SUV and hit a tree Sunday afternoon.

The Georgia State Patrol told FOX 5 News that bystanders immediately rushed in to pull Carlos Benitez from the burning car.

"He cried out and said 'please save me I want to live,'" Clay Ward told FOX 5.

Clay Ward was one of a handful of people who helped Benitez get to safety.

"I think he is extremely lucky that we were all there," Ward said. "I don't think he would be alive."

Ward said Benitez was pinned inside the car.

"The fire was growing. We had no fire extinguisher, so I ran and got scissors to get him out," Ward said.

Medics rushed Benitez to an area hospital.

"I just knew somebody needed help," Ward said. "I was there and I knew I could help."
