Young mother recovering from violent attack is reunited with newborn son

A young Atlanta mother is recovering from what loved ones described as a brutal act of domestic violence.

Prosper Uchitel's family said she was held captive against her will for days at her southwest Atlanta home. Her husband, Aaron Uchitel, is facing several charges including aggravated battery, false imprisonment and cruelty to children.

Tuesday, Prosper's mother told FOX 5 that her daughter is not expected to lose her eyesight, as doctors originally feared. She was able to visit with her newborn son in the hospital Tuesday for the first time since she was assaulted.

The 23-year-old is surrounded by family and friends at Grady Memorial Hospital where she is recovering from severe injuries. The victim's mother, Fawn Ortega, told FOX 5 Aaron Uchitel repeatedly beat, raped and drugged her daughter over a four day period. "She is in really bad shape. Her ribs are broken she has lacerations, he stabbed her breast he stabbed her back he beat her leg the back of her leg has a gash, stab wound he tied her wrists so there are still ligature marks on her wrist."

Prosper Uchitel gave birth to the couple's son about two weeks ago and the baby was at the home during the ordeal.

Ortega said her daughter was near death when she showed up at the home Tuesday to check on her, forcing her way into the home and calling police.

"And she was all bloody and I wrapped her up and put her in the chair and waiting for the police to come freaking out and she was so swollen and her eye was bloody her lip had blood I've never seen anyone swollen like that."

Aaron Uchitel was taken into custody. He remains behind bars at the Fulton County Jail.

FOX 5 has learned this is the second time Uchitel has faced charges for a domestic violence incident involving his wife. He was charged with simple battery last November in Atlanta after reportedly grabbing Prosper and pulling her hair during an argument.

Court records show Uchitel was ordered to undergo 24 weeks of treatment at a court-approved facility for domestic violence intervention, and is scheduled to attend a compliance hearing in that case on July 12th.

Ortega has set up a go fund me page to help with expenses. Donations can be made at gofundme.com.
