Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl LIX rematch: What to know

Published January 26, 2025 8:06 PM MST

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will face each other in a rematch for Super Bowl LIX after winning their respective AFC and NFC championship games.

Patrick Mahomes rallied the Chiefs to a 38-35 victory over the Eagles two years ago in Arizona.

For the Eagles, their Super Bowl appearance was the second time in three years and fifth time in franchise history. Saquon Barkley dashed 60 yards for a touchdown on Philadelphia’s first play and finished with 118 yards and three scores, Jalen Hurts rushed for three TDs and the Eagles soared into the Super Bowl with a 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 245 yards and a touchdown, ran through the Buffalo defense for two more scores, and relied on his defense at key moments to help the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Bills 32-29 on Sunday night and reach the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season.

New Orleans was originally supposed to host Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, but when the NFL decided to extend the regular season by a game, the move pushed the Super Bowl into conflict with the city’s Mardi Gras celebrations, so the game was moved to Las Vegas and awarded Super Bowl LIX to New Orleans for 2025, when Mardi Gras falls in March.

What time is Super Bowl LIX?

Kickoff for Super Bowl LIX will be 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 9, but coverage will start much earlier on FOX, FS1, and Tubi.

Who won the Super Bowl last year?

The Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC and faced the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs won 25-22, with Patrick Mahomes taking the MVP.

The Chiefs will be going for an unprecedented three-peat this year after winning the Super Bowl each of the last two years.

Who’s performing at the Super Bowl?

Jon Batiste will perform the national anthem at Super Bowl LIX, while Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle will perform "America the Beautiful" and Ledisi will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing."
