ADOT unveils new app that could save lives

ADOT has unveiled a new app for smartphones to alert motorists about wrong-way drivers, traffic hazards, road closures, and weather conditions.

The goal is to help save lives.

"This app has so many great features for convenience, but some of its most important features are all about safety," said Mary Ann Mendoza, whose son, Brandon, was killed by a wrong-way driver in 2014.

With the click of a button, the new ADOT Alerts app can show its users the latest road closures, weather delays, the closest fire and police stations, as well as restaurants, movie theaters and hospitals.

The app uses geofencing technology to send its users alerts, in the specific area they are in.

Another feature - warnings for wrong way drivers in the area - could be life saving.

Mendoza is hoping the app will get people from Point A to Point B easier, but most of all, save lives.

The app is available, for free for Apple and Android devices on https://www.azdot.gov/adotalerts
