AZ man arrested in connection with 18 bomb threats

Tucson Police have arrested a man they believe was responsible for at least eighteen phony bomb threats in the Tucson area.

42-year-old Octavio Acosta turned himself in at the Douglas Port of Entry and was booked into the Cochise County Jail at 4am on Saturday.

Acosta was accused of phoning in phony bomb threats at schools, churches, government buildings and health centers in Tucson. Police say buildings had to be evacuated in each of these incidents, disrupting everyone's day for hours. Police are investigating at least eighteen reports of bomb threats that have now been linked to Acosta.

Several agencies have worked on this case, including the Tucson Police Bomb Squad, Marana Police, the Pima County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety, along with members of hte Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Acosta is now facing felony charges of committing a hoax, interference with an educational institution, and false reporting.

Police say the investigation will continue.
