Bright and colorful hair is the new trend
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Bright hair colors are trendy these days. Magenta, soft grays, lavender, pinks, greens, you name it, someone is trying it as a hair color.
Bold, bright, and bodacious, they are definite head turners, women and men of all ages turned their locks to every color of the rainbow.
There have been a few changes in the hair color revolution, it used to mean harsh chemicals to bleach hair, now it's not harsh anymore.
"Technology with hair color and bleach has come a long way, so it's not as damaging as it used to be," said Nikki Olson.
"Before it was more like a rebellious punk thing, now it's kind of trendy and soft, women want to look like mermaids and unicorns," said Olson.
"People realize they don't have to be so professional, a lot of jobs are allowing stuff like that now," she said.
"I think the appeal is it's glamorous to be somebody new," said Kinsey Schofield.
FOX News Now's Schofield is a natural brunette and rocks the pastel look without committing totally; she has invested in a few colorful wigs.
"I wear it to Nieman Marcus, charity galas, I wear it anywhere I wanna dress up and know there's going to be pictures taken, I want to look fierce," said Schofield.
Part of it has to do with social media, mixing up hair color keeps things edgy and interesting. Case in point is Kylie Jenner and Kati Perry's Instagram accounts which are seen by millions who idolize and copy them.
If you do decide to try the real thing, Olson says to seek out professional advice, especially if it involves bleaching. But she says the colorful trend will continue for a while.
"Neon colors are going to be in this season, neon yellow, blue, purple, are going to work as far as they can work it, and they will then revert back to a traditional hair color," said Olson.
But for now, people are skipping tradition to show true colors.
