Cesar Chavez High School football coach wants team to head to Alaska

A Laveen high school's football coach has an ambitious plan: to take his entire team on the road for the season opener to Anchorage, Alaska.

Athletic Director Lenny Doerfler came up with the idea, after running football camps in Alaska for years. When Doerfler told the coach and the team, there was a bit of skepticism, but the opportunity was too good to pass up, and it could be the trip of a lifetime for some of the Chavez players.

The game against East Anchorage High School will be part of a home and home series, as they will visit the Valley in 2019. Before then, however, the focus will be on The Last Frontier for Chavez High.
