Mesa, Gilbert Police investigate officer-involved shooting

Police from two departments are investigating an officer-involved shooting that started in Mesa, but ended with officers from Gilbert and Mesa opening fire on the suspect.

The whole thing came to an end Thursday night in the backyard of a home near Lindsay and Warner, but police say it started with a domestic violence call in Mesa around 9:30 p.m.

Police say they received a call from a woman claiming her ex-boyfriend was threatening her with a gun in a neighborhood near U.S. 60 and Val Vista.

Authorities say the ex-boyfriend left the scene, then confronted another woman at a nearby home. He even tried to take the second woman's phone, but eventually drove off from the area. Officers attempted to pull him over near Lindsay and Southern, but he got away and drove into a neighborhood in Gilbert and that's where police found him inside a home.

"Our officers were on foot, trying to locate the suspect.. heard a commotion.. and located the suspect inside," explained Diana Williams of the Mesa Police. "The suspect was then chased into the backyard where he then brandished a weapon and Mesa police officers and Gilbert police officers discharged their weapons."

The 27-year-old suspect was transported to an area hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. His name was not released.

Police say it appears that the suspect knew the people inside the house, but it's not clear if he lives there.

No officers were injured.
