A man died following a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles along the Superstition Freeway in Mesa on Friday morning.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the chain-reaction crash happened just before midnight when the 24-year-old motorcyclist collided with a Mercedes. Immediately after this, another vehicle rear-ended the Mercedes, and that vehicle was rear-ended.

The victim was then hit by two other vehicles and run over after he was pushed off of the motorcycle.

The 24-year-old was not wearing a helmet and impairment is not suspected.

Eastbound US 60 from the Loop 101 to Mesa Drive was closed throughout the morning due to the investigation, however, it reopened at about 6:30 a.m.

The victim's identity has not been released by DPS and the investigation is ongoing.
