Police: 1 dead in shooting at Laveen home

LAVEEN, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A 22-year-old man is dead and police are searching for the suspected shooter.

Phoenix police say there is no threat to the community, but as for people who live near the crime scene, they say they're worried.

"We came out here, like 4:30, and then came out one hour later and this happened," Cesar Perez said.

Perez says it was during that hour that he heard what he describes as a gunshot.

"Just heard one loud bang and that was it," he said.

His neighbors didn't hear it, but they woke up to a sea of red and blue police lights and crime scene tape. They say it was all very frightening.

"It's so scary because it's so close to home," one neighbor said.

Phoenix police Sgt. Armando Carbajal says the 911 call came in at 4:21 a.m. when someone was reporting a possible shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old with a gunshot wound. A woman was inside the house with him, but she was not hurt.

"Right now, the info we have is that it happened very quickly, that the suspect simply entered the residence, shot the victim and left," he said.

Police believe this was isolated, but Perez is still shaken up and worried about his family.

"We have three-to-four kids in the house and you know, you want to leave for work early, but you don't know if they're going to be safe," he said.
