Police looking for woman who allegedly stole car from Planet Fitness
PHOENIX (FOX 10) - What do you do with your keys at the gym? Police are looking for a woman caught on camera snatching car keys off the board where members can hang their keys up.
There are several cars at a time at a Planet Fitness parking lot so you can imagine the key board is filled with keys. One woman decided to snatch a car key in April and police need help to identify her.
Surveillance video at Planet Fitness shows a woman casually walk by a key board. She's seen grabbing car keys before leaving the gym. This is something many members do here. But police say the woman who took these keys ended up stealing someone's car, a red 2015 Scion tC.
Some say they avoid using the key board so their car doesn't get stolen.
"Just hanging your keys on the board is not super secure," said Planet Fitness member Oscar Lopez. "[You] come back outside and your car is stolen. It's wild - I wouldn't be surprised. Not here, not in this area at least.
Others are comfortable hanging up their car keys and say this crime won't stop their routine.
"I don't think this is something to be focused on Planet Fitness," said member Reed Adlof. "As if this is their fault and their system is not working."
Police say the suspect is a white female, 25-30-years-old with brown hair. Investigators are searching for more leads.
"This clearly wasn't well thought out, this isn't some master crime," said Adlof. "This is a person who's desperate [and] took advantage of keys on a board and they're [going to] get caught."
