Scottsdale teacher re-arrested after contacting victim
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Scottsdale teacher who is facing sex charges involving a minor has been re-arrested, after police say he contacted the same teenage girl.
"Special Victim's Unit learned that McKenna had been contacting our juvenile victim again, so they began an investigation," Sgt. Ben Hoster, of Scottsdale police, said.
Scottsdale police originally arrested the 37-year-old Chapparal High School teacher and track coach on December 8th. Release conditions in December prohibited McKenna from having any contact with the student and he was released with an ankle bracelet.
Using that GPS signal and the girl's cell phone signal, detectives say they determined the two were together last week where he gave her a Trackphone.
Police arrested McKenna on Friday and at his initial appearance on Saturday, prosecutors pushed for a higher bond.
Bond was set at $25,000 and McKenna was back at his Phoenix home on Monday. He now faces more than a dozen new charges for this arrest.
