The Dayton Police Department released dramatic video of a suspect who led police on a vehicle pursuit before stealing a patrol vehicle and crashing into a house.

What we know:

The incident happened just before midnight in Dayton, Ohio. Officers say they were working a vehicle crash when a man driving an SUV came speeding through the intersection, striking a street sign and driving erratically.

Police initiated a brief pursuit, using a pit maneuver to stop the vehicle. In the video, you see the suspect exit the vehicle and run toward some houses. Police then say the suspect circled back to where the officers stopped and commandeered a patrol vehicle.

Police say the suspect disregarded multiple orders to get out, then he drove away in the stolen cruiser and crashed into additional patrol vehicles as he fled the scene.

The other side:

Mere moments later, caught on the patrol car’s dash cam, the suspect ended up crashing completely through a home where two people were home at the time. When a deputy arrived at the home to take the suspect into custody, police say the suspect attacked the officer, bit him and attempted to steal his gun.

Police were eventually able to subdue the suspect and place him in custody.

Big picture view:

Dayton Police and Fire say both people in the home were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Seven police officers were injured, six went to the hospital as a precaution, but were treated and released.

The suspect, who was also hospitalized, was later found to be wanted for numerous felony crimes, including aggravated robbery and homicide.
