School is back in session, and with that brings crowds of eager ASU students back to Tempe.

Local Businesses:

"It was so great to have them back. It was quite sleepy here, the energy is back, so we're real excited to have everyone," Rusty Taco's Tim Timbrook said.

Rusty Taco in Tempe is celebrating the start of the new school year.

"Back to school Thursday from five to midnight, got a DJ, costume contest, discounted food and drink specials," Timbrook said.

Students Return:

Students are excited to get back into the action, too.

"I'm really glad that I'm back with my friends, I'm back working with all the ASU students. Around summer, Tempe can get kind of slow, so I'm glad it's picked back up," student Maya De La Huerta-Kainz said.

Rusty Taco is just one of many spots students can hit-up downtown.

"It's great there's always new places opening up and new places to eat and try," De La Huerta-Kainz explained.

Back-to-School Perks:

One shop that just opened a few months ago is The Lizard Head Trading Company. They are offering 20% off for ASU students through the end of August.

"We're a buy, sell and trade store. We take clothing in, purchase items, then sell them. Essentially, we sell cash for clothes," Shelby Davin said.

Employee and ASU Alumna Alison Yeager noted the benefits of the resale business model.

"I think it's really cool that we can give new life to clothing with the buy-sell-trade model clothes people are looking for. And I think it's cool we can repurpose clothing, give it a new life. I also think it's a nice way to make extra money," Yeager said.

One thing is for sure, these students say it is good to be back.
