A ride-on toy sold exclusively at Walmart has been recalled in the U.S. because it can overheat due to improper wiring, posing a fire hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a notice dated April 24 that the ride-on toys were sold as recently as December 2024.

Torex UTV ride-on toys recalled

Why you should care:

The CPSC notice states that there have been 20 reports of the ride-on toys "smoking or catching fire," resulting in five minor burn injuries.

What we know:

The CPSC said the recall involves Huffy-branded Torex 24-volt ride-on toy UTVs, which are black with red trim. They measure 53 inches long, 43 inches wide and 27 inches tall.

Labels with the word "Torex" are located on the front and side of the ride-on toy, according to the notice – and they have the model numbers 17249 and 17310 with date codes between 16919 and 11122. These numbers are located under the body of the unit near the rear wheel.

According to the recall notice, the date code’s last two numbers are for the year and the first three numbers are for the day of the year, so the date code 16919 represents June 18, 2019, and date code 11122 represents April 21, 2022.

Dig deeper:

The ride-on toys were sold nationwide at Walmart stores, both in person and online, between August 2019 and December 2024. They were priced between $500 and $600.

The product was manufactured in China.

By the numbers:

About 24,700 ride-on toys are part of the recall, the notice said.

What they're saying:

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled UTVs and contact Huffy Corporation to schedule a free repair," the CPSC notice said.

What you can do:
