VIDEO: Young boy attempts to stop GameStop robbers in Silver Spring

A 7-year-old Montgomery County boy is getting high praise for his bravery after an armed robbery at a GameStop store in Silver Spring and it was all caught on surveillance video.

At around 8:56 p.m. Friday, police said two masked men walked into the store in the 10100 block of Colesville Road armed with handguns. In the video released by Montgomery County police, you can see the boy fight off one of the robbery suspects who tried to grab him.

The boy's father, who did not want to be identified, said he and his wife were separated from their son when the suspects came into the store. They ordered two store clerks, the 7-year-old and the boy's parents to get down on the floor behind the counter.

The boy's father said he didn't realize his son had tried to fight back until the encounter was over.

"We didn't completely understand why," said the father. "Of course, we think our son is brave and a strong kid. But we didn't exactly know why and when we saw the tape, we saw why. Because he saw somebody who was a stranger, who seemed most dangerous to him and he tried to defend himself. I think it was his natural instinct taking over there."

The suspects took cash and personal property before leaving through the front door of the store.

The suspects are both described as black men in their 20s, approximately 5′6″ tall and weighing 170 pounds. They were wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, gloves and masks.
