VNSA used book sale is back and bigger than ever

The VNSA Used Book Sale is back and bigger than ever. Saturday was the first day of sales and people lined up as early as 8 a.m. on Friday morning.

For more than 60 years, VNSA has held the Mega Used Book Sale and many consider it Black Friday for book lovers.

"I came all the way from Maryland, Silverspring, Maryland. I've been to a lot of book sales. This is number one," said a man.

This valley tradition brings in thousands of people from near and far.

"Everybody is ready to go. They bring their suitcases

The books range from fiction to autobiography to children's to scholars.

"Yes, technology is fabulous, but nothing is like having a paperback in your hand or a book," said a teacher.

Even though most are there to enjoy the written word, some even make a business out of it. Take the textbook section, where people can stand to make a pretty profit selling the texts online.

"This one right here goes for 60. And it says it sells for $122," said a textbook seller.

Like many of the books here, attending the annual sale has become something to pass on.

"Started comnig here when I was ten. So she had to wait until she was ten. My granddaughter and my other granddaughter is over there, tradition, tradition," said the teacher.

And in this day and age of technology, this sale proves people still get excited about good old books.

Sunday is "half-price day" where everything is 50% off. The sale starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m.
