Woman dies after drive-by shooting in south Phoenix: police
PHOENIX - A drive-by shooting on Sunday in a south Phoenix neighborhood left a woman dead.
The shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 near 22nd Street and Roeser Road.
What we know:
The Phoenix Police Department says officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area. Once at the scene, officers found 72-year-old Joanne Smith with at least one gunshot wound.
Smith was taken to a hospital where she later died.
What they're saying:
Investigators believe Smith was outside when the shooting occurred.
"Preliminary information suggests that Smith was outside of a home in the area, when suspect(s) in a vehicle driving by the home fired in the direction of the victim striking her," Sgt. Rob Scherer said.
