49ers release Bruce Miller after assault arrest

San Francisco 49er Bruce Miller has been released from the team following an arrest for assault.

San Francisco police confirm to KTVU that the 29-year-old fullback was arrested in San Francisco Monday morning.

Miller allegedly tried to check into the Fisherman's Wharf Marriott Hotel on Sunday night, but was told the hotel was full.

Sources say he returned Monday morning and knocked on one of the guest room doors.

The room was occupied by an elderly couple who did not know Miller.

The neighboring guest, the couple's 29-year-old son, told Miller that he had the wrong room.

That's when Miller allegedly began attacking him. The man's father came to his son's aid, and was also attacked by Miller.

Sources say the 70-year-old man was punched in the face and suffered broken bones.

Both father and son were transported to the hospital.

A hotel worker says he called 911 after he saw Miller bleeding and vomiting as he ran from the hotel. Miller was arrested a short time later.

According to jail records, Miller has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon (not a firearm), 2 counts of making criminal threats, and battery.

The 49ers announced Monday that Miller had been released from the team.

Miller posted a photo to his Instagram account on Sunday posing with friends at The Palm House, a popular San Francisco restaurant and bar with the caption "Sundays are for the boys."

KTVU spoke to someone who works at the restaurant who said "Miller was hammered."

Last year, Miller was arrested on spousal battery charges in Santa Clara.

He was accused of smashing his then fiancee's cell phone during a heated argument.

He later plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace, after the woman said there was no physical contact.
