Robert Sarver: Suns not leaving Phoenix

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- It appears the Phoenix Suns will stay in the Valley after all, based on what Suns owner Robert Sarver said in a video posted to the team's verified Twitter account Thursday.

The NBA team's future in Phoenix has been a topic of discussion, as talks over the renovation of the team's home, Talking Stick Resort Arena, continues. On Wednesday, the Phoenix City Council delayed a vote on a plan renovate the arena until January. Under the $230 million plan, the city will spend $150 million to renovate the stadium, and the Suns will spend $80 million. In return, the team will stay in at Talking Stick Resort Arena until 2032, with a possibility to extend it past 2040.

FOX 10's Jude LaCava had a conversation with one political figure on Wednesday, who suggested that Sarver has threatened to move the team. Any move, however, would have to go through the NBA Board of Governors.

In the video, which was posted to the Suns' verified Twitter account Thursday afternoon, Sarver made his position on the team's future clear.

"First and foremost, the Phoenix Suns are not leaving Phoenix," said Sarver. "I'm 100% committed, and have been for the past four years, to find a solution to keep them in Downtown Phoenix, where they belong."

In the video, Sarver also called himself a "strong proponent' to renovate Talking Stick Resort Arena.
