The fight over Arizona's dual language learning in school was the focus of a court argument on Jan. 12. This issue is whether students should be allowed to get a bilingual education, even if they are still learning English. Arizona's Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Horne, said that is a violation of a law that was passed by voters in 2000. Horne claims students should be able to participate in a 50-50 dual language program, but only if they are proficient in English first. Governor Katie Hobbs, Attorney General Kris Mayes, and nearly a dozen other school districts are fighting this lawsuit.
