Rental car scams exposed: What to check before you drive | FOX 10 Talks
Vacation season is underway, but travelers need to be on alert for rental car surprises and unexpected fees. Jasmine from the Better Business Bureau joins the broadcast to share critical tips for consumers making rental vehicle purchases. Many travelers face unexpected challenges when receiving their final invoices after paying in advance or dropping off their vehicles. To avoid these issues, experts recommend always using reputable websites and conducting a quick search if a company appears unfamiliar. The Better Business Bureau advises against clicking on deals that seem too good to be true, as this is often a major red flag. Additionally, travelers can call the bureau directly to verify what information is available on specific rental car companies before booking. Consumers are also urged to protect themselves by taking video documentation during the vehicle walk-around at check-in and drop-off. An anchor shared a personal experience in New York where video evidence disproved a claim that a rental car was never returned. Doing your due diligence by taking photos of the gas tank to verify it is full can also prevent unfair fuel charges.

How to keep pets safe from fireworks this Fourth of July | FOX 10 Talks
The Arizona Humane Society is sharing essential pet safety tips ahead of the Fourth of July, which is the number one time of the year for pets to go missing. Fireworks and holiday parties can easily scare or distract pets, making it crucial for owners to ensure their animals are microchipped with updated information. Representatives recommend keeping pets in a safe, secure area with fresh water and utilizing distractions like a television or radio to drown out loud noises. The organization brought a kitty cat named Shakira, who was rescued three weeks ago as an injured stray in a Sunnyslope location. She received treatment at the trauma hospital for a head injury, full-body injuries, and a mass removal in her ear, and she is now fully recovered. Shakira represents one of the more than 28,000 sick, injured, and abused pets that the Arizona Humane Society cares for every single year. Additionally, a new city ordinance regarding animal tethering will go into effect in about 30 days. While the Arizona Humane Society recommends never tethering pets due to severe risks like tangling, they offer alternatives through their "Break the Chain" initiative at azhumane.org. The non-profit relies heavily on community support through adoption, fostering, volunteering, and donations to continue their life-saving work during the busy summer heat and extended kitten season.
