Silicon Valley, the nation's 16th largest bank, collapsed on mar. 10 as depositors rushed to withdraw their money after the bank revealed a big loss on its bond holdings. The bank is now controlled by California regulators, and officials with FDIC say insured depositors will have access to their money by Monday. The man convicted of killing Kristin Smart, a woman who vanished in 1996, has been sentenced to life in prison. Smart was 19 when she disappeared from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California. Her remains were never found, but prosecutors say Paul Flores, a fellow student, killed her while trying to sexually assault her in a dorm room. Flores, now 45, was convicted in October.
