Eight people are in custody after a bold attempt to rob a stationary BNSF freight train outside of Joseph City in Navajo County. Local deputies and federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) were one step ahead, waiting in the shadows near a remote stop known as Jackrabbit. #train #robbery #trainrobbery #northernarizona A BNSF freight train carrying high-value merchandise (including expensive sports shoes) scheduled to stop west of Holbrook. Investigators watched as the group broke into boxcars and began loading a U-Haul truck and a box trailer. When law enforcement moved in, the suspects attempted to flee. After a pursuit involving spike strips and a search of the surrounding desert, all eight suspects were captured. All stolen merchandise was successfully recovered and returned to BNSF.
