One person is dead, and nearly a dozen people are displaced after a fire broke out Thursday at an apartment complex in Phoenix.

The fire happened just after 12 p.m. near 23rd Avenue and Ocotillo Road.

What we know:

The Phoenix Fire Department says crews arrived at the scene, deployed hoselines and began searching for any victims.

One adult was found dead during the search.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading to any other structures.

Road restrictions are in place on 23rd Avenue, from Maryland to Glendale Avenues. Drivers should avoid the area.

What we don't know:

A Phoenix Fire Department task force is investigating what sparked the fire. The identity of the person who died in the fire is unknown.

What they're saying:

"This is the third fire fatality within the last week," Capt. Shaun DuBois said in a statement.
