22-year-old man charged with killing 2, injuring 4 at UNC Charlotte

Two people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire on the campus of University of North Carolina at Charlotte Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened about 5:40 p.m., according to university officials. UNCC Niner Alerts tweeted that gunshots were reported near Kennedy Hall, an administrative building on campus.

"Shots reported near kennedy. Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately," the tweet read.

The accused gunman, 22-year-old Trystan A. Terrell, was taken into custody. Video showed Terrell being led away in handcuffs shortly after police arrived on campus.

Terrell has been charged with two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm on educational property, and discharging a firearm on educational property.

"Our officers actions definitely saved lives. There's no doubt about that," Baker said.
