Drone used to track suspect who ran from police in Buckeye: PD

Buckeye Police say they arrested a teen who allegedly sped away from officers, with help from a piece of modern technology.

The incident, according to a statement, happened over the weekend.

What we know:

In a statement released on Feb. 4, investigators say the incident began in the area of Verrado Way and Sunshine at around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.

Per investigators, officers were conducting traffic enforcement duties in the area when they saw the suspect on an electric motorcycle, and failed to stop at a stop sign. When the suspect spotted a police vehicle behind him, he allegedly ran away.

What They Said:

"Police launched a drone to track the suspect as he cut through a park, drove on a golf course path and traveled the wrong way on Victory Blvd. An officer activated lights and sirens to pull him over near Pasadena and 206th Ave, and the suspect, again, sped away. The drone continued to track the suspect and, a short time later, spotted him on foot pushing the motorcycle. That’s when officers took the suspect into custody," read a portion of the statement.

What's next:

Police say the suspect, who is identified as a 16-year-old male, is accused of felony flight, reckless driving, and violating curfew.

"Additionally, he was cited for not having a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license, no current registration and no insurance," read a portion of the statement.
