According to TMZ, the comedian and actor was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning after being taken off life support Tuesday night at a Southern California hospital, where he was surrounded by family and friends.

The outlet reported that Garcia had been dealing with multiple medical issues in the months leading up to his death, including a brain aneurysm in the spring during which he fell and hit his head; although he recovered, sources told TMZ he later suffered a stroke.

He had also recently canceled several shows because he wasn’t feeling well, though he chose not to seek medical treatment.

TMZ further noted that he had been hospitalized around November 20 with pneumonia and discharged, but his condition worsened in the following weeks, leading to his return to the hospital on Monday with breathing difficulties before his lung collapsed on Tuesday.
