Man flees from police, found hiding in swimming pool

Authorities chased a suspected car thief for nearly a mile after he ran from them.

During the pursuit, he hopped fences and walls before he jumped in someone's pool. A police K-9 tracked him down and helped take him into custody.

After the suspect got away from police, he jumped in the backyard pool of a home, and it wasn't long before the police K-9 caught up."

"There must have been 50 police officers and 25 vehicles, with motorcycles," said Les Hogg.

It all started after Glendale Police tried to stop the stolen vehicle and the driver got out and ran.

"One minute you're sitting there doing a report in your car and the next, you're running after someone who's 30 years younger than you jumping fences," said Lt. Matt Apodaza.

Officers caught up with the suspect near 51st Avenue and Northern and found him in somebody's pool.

"The K-9 was deployed, and the K-9 did pull him out of the pool," said Apodaza.

The suspect was taken to the hospital to recover from his injuries and once he does recover he will be booked into jail.
