Man shot by police officer sentenced to 20 years in prison

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A man who was shot by a Prescott Valley police officer after he pointed a shotgun at the officer has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Daily Courier reports 43-year-old Jeremy Wolf was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault per domestic violence, among other charges.

In March 2014, police arrived at Wolf's home after a 911 call reported a domestic violence incident.

Wolf ran out the back door holding a shotgun. He pointed the gun at Officer John Van Gundy and was shot twice by the officer.

According to the court's presentence report, Wolf had mixed prescription medications with alcohol.

Defense attorney Kennedy Klagge says Wolf intended to end his own life when he went out his back door with the shotgun.
