Man dies after entering tiger enclosure at wildlife park

A man died Saturday after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in England, authorities said.

Emergency services responded to the park at about 1:35 p.m. after receiving reports that the man had entered the enclosure. The tiger attacked him, causing serious injuries. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s family has been notified and is being supported by specialist officers.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park said its emergency procedures were immediately activated following the incident.

"We can confirm that a serious incident has occurred today at the tiger enclosure. Our emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and emergency services are currently attending the scene," the park said. "We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened. The safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff and animals remain our highest priority."

The tiger was not injured and remained inside the enclosure. Authorities said there was no wider risk to the public.

The park was evacuated and closed following the incident. It will remain closed Sunday, Oct. 11, the park said.

Authorities urged people not to share videos circulating online showing the incident.
