Migrants make it to shore in South Florida

Twenty-four migrants made it to land on Sands Key in Miami-Dade County Tuesday.

Officials from Homeland Security and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived on scene shortly after they came ashore.

Due to the low tide, some of the migrants walked through the water toward a docked Homeland Security vessel, one of them seen carrying a child on his back.

Authorities said they have 17 migrants in custody, but believe 24 reached land and they were searching for the others.

The group is expected to stay in the U.S. under the government's wet-foot, dry-foot policy.

It is unclear where they are from.
