FDA officials explained in an agency release that the item contains methylene chloride and chloroform, methylene chloride.

Officials noted that in cosmetics, this substance is concerning because it may cause cancer in animals and could be harmful to people.

There are no reports of injuries resulting from use of the nail polish remover and Morovan recalled roughly 4,000 units. The items were sold on Amazon between August 2025 and January 2026.

Methylene chloride is a banned ingredient and is not allowed in cosmetics at any level under FDA regulations, the agency added.

What should I do with the nail polish remover?

What you can do:

The Food and Drug Administration is urging consumers to stop using the affected nail polish remover and mark the product bottle and its outer packaging with the word "recalled" in a visible location.  FDA officials also noted that consumers can receive a refund.

Owners of the product should also safely throw the product away, and once this done, take a picture of the discarded nail polish displaying the "recalled" label and the product and provide the image via to customer-service@morovan.com.
