Mother tearfully asks for driver who hit her and her kids to come forward

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Phoenix Police have released the description of a car involved in a crash Friday evening that seriously injured a 25-year-old woman and her three children.

According to a statement released on Friday, the crash happened at around 7:52 p.m., on the 7000 block of W. Indian School Road. At that time, the woman was crossing the road with her three children, and all four were stopped in the two-way left turn lane when a four-door sedan that was heading west entered the turn lane, driving into the four and continued west.

The four were taken to the hospital and as of Friday, they were listed in serious condition. The children were between the ages of two and five, and the three-year-old boy suffered the most serious injuries.

The children have since been identified by the mother, 25-year-old Stephanie Oros, as five-year-old Jessiah, three-year-old Prince, and two-year-old Leyla. Oros said they were crossing the road to go home after shopping.

"I heard this car coming so far," said Oros. "I felt him strike us, and I fell to the floor"

Jessiah went running scared to safety, while Prince was knocked unconscious. Leyla, who was in a stroller, was dragged down the street by the car. According to police, the troller was trapped under the car, and was dragged for approximately 1,000 feet (304.8 meters).

"I started chasing him and started screaming 'please my baby, stop'," Oros recounted. "I just kept running as fast as I can, and I was looking around to see if I had seen my son."

Prince suffered the most injuries, suffering a fractured collar bone, jaw, and skull, with injuries on his arms, as well as road scars.

"They're traumatized, scared, but I always taught them to be brave and tough," said Oros.

On Monday, Phoenix Police identified the car involved as a Volkswagen Passat with Arizona license plate number AGB3745. The suspect, although still not identified, is a man, police say.

Oros tearfully asked the driver responsible to come forward

"I just want this person to come forward," said Oros. "Maybe he's scared, maybe didn't mean to, but he had the choice to stop and he didn't stop. I just don't want him to hurt nobody because we're lucky we're alive. He could have killed my babies. He could have killed the infant, and he didn't stop to see if we were OK. He didn't touch his heart to do it. He chose not to do it, and he had a choice to stop."
