Snow falls north of Phoenix and in Arizona's high country

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- It's a cold and snowy New Year's Eve across the state as snow is falling north of Phoenix and in Arizona's high country.

Just north of the Valley in Cordes Junction, snow has blanketed the desert and as a result, traffic is moving slowly along Interstate 17.

State Route 89A is closed in both directions north of Jerome due to the snow and State Route 169 through Prescott is also closed due to weather conditions.

As of 12 p.m. on Monday, there had been reports of at least 15 vehicles sliding off roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, 4-to-8-inches of snow is expected to fall in Flagstaff on Monday. Over the past 24 hours, the Arizona Snowbowl ski resort received 8 inches of new snow.
