Woman allegedly drove wrong way, impaired on west Phoenix freeway

A woman who was impaired when she drove the wrong way on a west Phoenix freeway has been arrested, according to state authorities.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said 28-year-old Ariel Andrews has been booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated DUI and endangerment.

It was unclear Wednesday if Andrews has a lawyer yet.

DPS troopers said Andrews was seen driving northbound on southbound lanes on the Loop 202 from Interstate 10 around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.

They said Andrews almost struck a trooper’s fully marked vehicle on the freeway before she was stopped.

Troopers also said Andrews had alcohol on her breath when she was being interviewed after the incident and tests showed her blood-alcohol was well above the legal limit for drivers.

Court documents show Andrews told troopers that she was driving home from her boyfriend’s house after drinking in Peoria.

Andrews also reportedly told authorities she was trying to find a place to turn around on the freeway, but couldn’t find an area to do that so she just kept driving.
