Phoenix Suns acquire three first-round picks from Utah Jazz
PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns acquired three future first-round picks from the Utah Jazz in exchange for a 2031 unprotected first-round pick, the teams announced on Tuesday.
The Suns now own first-round picks in 2025, 2027 and 2029 that are the least favorable selections between Cleveland and Minnesota in 2025 and between Cleveland, Utah and Minnesota in both 2027 and 2029.
The backstory:
Last week, the Suns acquired center Nick Richards from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for three second-round draft picks. The move came after Phoenix benched center Jusuf Nurkic.
Earlier this month, the Suns benched Bradley Beal, amid reports of trade speculation. The Suns acquired Beal in a 2023 trade with the Washington Wizards, but Beal has missed multiple games because of injuries since joining Phoenix.
The Suns have struggled this season, posting a 21-21 record. Phoenix is currently in 10th place in the Western Conference.
Bigger move coming?
Big picture view:
The Suns have been linked to Jimmy Butler. Phoenix could try to use the three first-round picks acquired from the Jazz to land the disgruntled Miami Heat star.
Butler recently returned to the Heat lineup following a seven-game suspension for "conduct detrimental to the team."
