A former West Virginia lawmaker who served three months in prison for his participation in the Jan. 6th Capitol riot says he's running for Congress.

The nation's capital is marking two years since a violent mob of supporters of then-President Donald Trump, fueled by his false claims of a stolen election, attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The House committee had voted to subpoena the former president during its final televised hearing before the midterm elections in October, demanding testimony and documents.

The planning was extensive, the transcripts show, and began as early as four days before the election, when state party officials began discussing whether Nevada’s Republican secretary of state would sign off on the alternate slate of electors.

The Jan. 6 committee’s report asserts that Trump criminally engaged in a “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 election and failed to act to stop his supporters from attacking the Capitol.

Cassidy Hutchinson was a top aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and a key witness for the Jan. 6 committee.

The summary also details how the claims were premeditated. Even before the election, Trump insisted the only way he would lose would be by massive voter fraud.

The committee's referrals to the Justice Department carry no legal weight since federal prosecutors are already conducting their own investigation and are the sole deciders of whether to pursue charges against Trump.

The January 6 Committee referred Trump to the DOJ for criminal prosecution.

The subpoena, which is dated Friday and was received by Raffensperger’s office Monday, follows others served last week in several states and counties.
