Arizona weather forecast: Cold conditions in Phoenix on Tuesday
PHOENIX - Another week of cold conditions across the state and country!
An arctic air mass has dropped across the United States, bringing extreme cold to much of the country.
Freeze Warning in effect
What we know:
The high temperature in Phoenix reached just 60 degrees, sitting well below the average of 68 for the date. It will be sunny and dry Tuesday, and winds will continue to weaken as the day progresses.
Overnight, parts of Yuma, La Paz, Maricopa, and Pinal counties are under a Freeze Warning as temperatures drop into the upper 20s and low 30s. In the Valley, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is forecast to fall to 36 degrees with areas like Chandler, Queen Creek, Avondale, Surprise and Buckeye falling into freezing conditions. As a reminder, pets should be indoors during evenings like this and sensitive plants may need cover.
The temperature begins to rebound on Wednesday with a forecast high of 69 in Phoenix and a mostly sunny sky. By Thursday, the high temperature returns to the low 70s. It will remain in the low 70s on Friday and Saturday, too.
In northern Arizona, bitterly cold mornings continue for the next couple of days with slowly warming afternoon conditions. For our area ski parks, this week provides great snowmaking weather. However, Mother Nature may allow for natural snowmaking by this weekend.
Rain and snow this weekend?
What's next:
We're watching a storm system that has the potential to bring rain and snow showers across much of Arizona between Saturday night and Monday. For now, it is too early to fine tune the exact timing and impacts of the storm system. However, if the storm can remain organized as it passes through the state, cooler temperatures, gusty winds and wet weather are all possible. For now, Phoenix has a 20% chance for showers from Sunday into Monday.
