Arizona weather forecast: Rain in the forecast on Monday in Phoenix
PHOENIX - After much waiting, the state is finally seeing rain and snow.
An area of low pressure will slowly move from Southern California through Arizona and eastward over the next several days. As it tracks through, it brings rounds of rain and snow, as well as cool temperatures to Arizona.
What We Can Expect:
The first round of precipitation began Monday morning in the form of showers (just in the west Valley) and mountain snow over parts of Yavapai, Mohave, and Coconino Counties. Another round of showers in Phoenix is possible by late afternoon and early evening, with snow showers lingering through the day in the High Country. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for areas above 5000 feet in Yavapai and Coconino Counties through midnight.
Once the storm system passes over Arizona on Tuesday, a period of drier conditions is expected. Still, by later in the day Tuesday, a few rain and snow showers will be possible across the state, especially areas north. From Tuesday evening into Wednesday, the storm center passes eastward and moisture will begin to wrap back around the storm. This brings better chances for snow to the northeast parts of the state. Another round of rain showers is possible down the lower deserts, too. Even on Thursday, some lingering snow will be possible in far eastern Arizona.
Snow in the High Country
While 1–3 inches of snow may fall in Flagstaff through midnight, a total of 4–8 inches could collect in the area by the end of the week. Arizona Snowbowl may see 6–12 inches by the end of the week, with 3–6 inches possible over Sunrise Park. Depending on the speed of the storm system, these totals may shift a bit.
Temperatures remain below average, barely around freezing in Flagstaff and near 60 in Phoenix on Monday. In fact, highs around the Valley sit near 60 on Tuesday and Wednesday, too.
What's next:
Once the system fully exits the Southwest, temperatures quickly rebound as sunshine and dry conditions make a return. Temperatures in the middle 60s are forecast on Thursday, upper 60s by Friday, low 70s by Saturday and upper 70s by Sunday.
