Spring is around the corner and outdoor chefs across the country are getting ready for cookouts. Before cleaning that grill, though, they will want to double-check their brushes.

That’s because Nexgrill recalled more than 10 million of its brushes and warned people to stop using them immediately.

Millions sold at Home Depot, online

Why you should care:

The company explained that small, metal wire bristles can come off the brushes and get stuck inside food. If someone ate food with bristles in it, they could suffer serious injuries that could potentially require surgery.

What you can do:

Nexgrill encourages customers to return the brushes for a full refund, in the form of a $5 to $15 gift card, if the claim is successful. The company has also posted details on how to get a refund by going to www.nexgrill.com or nexgrill.mktpoint.com/recall

What they're saying:

In response to the recall, Nexgrill issued a statement describing the recall as a proactive, voluntary decision and ensuring customers of their commitment to safety.

"Safety is our top priority," the company wrote. "Our goal in the production of our grill brushes is simple: giving our customers a way to safely clean and maintain their grills as they enjoy the All-American BBQ tradition with family and friends."

The statement went on to urge customers to check the instructions before using its brushes, discard the brush if any bristles are loose, and check cooking surfaces for loose bristles before cooking.
