PHOENIX (FOX 10) - A woman has been arrested after a brawl between five people in west Phoenix ended with a deadly stabbing Thursday.
Three people who were stabbed were taken to nearby hospitals where one of the victims, identified as 20-year-old Willie Rias, was pronounced dead. The two other stabbing victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, the stabbing happened in the area of 83rd Avenue and Palm Lane when the victims began to overpower a 25-year-old man, who is now considered to be an investigative lead. That's when 22-year-old Ladonna Hamilton stabbed the three victims before leaving the area with the man.
Hamilton and the man were later found at a nearby apartment where they were detained. Hamilton has since been booked into jail on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
"We had two suspects outstanding based on the investigation, and doing some searches, we were able to find two suspects in the apartment, so we were able to track them down carefully," said Detective Luis Samudio.
Meanwhile, people living in the area say they are not used to seeing this kind of crime, and not used to the police presence outside their door.
"It's not good," said Tracy Felix, who lives in the area. He saw the scene of police swarming outside of his apartment amidst a homicide investigation. He said this is something he never wants to see near his home.
"Just to hear what is happening -- and my family is here and I have a young son -- it is kind of crazy," said Felix.
Felix said he is happy the suspects have been found.
"I am happy they found them, 'cause they could have been roaming around and we don't know," said Felix.
With his young son at home, Felix said all he can do is be more vigilant.
"This is our community, and we don't want this happening right next to where we live at," said Felix.
