Man found with gun, knife at Tucson school: police

A man accused of bringing a gun and a knife to a school in Tucson was arrested.

The incident happened on Jan. 16 at Legacy Traditional School, located near Golf Links and Harrison Roads.

What we know:

Tucson Police say officers responded to reports of a man acting erratically in the parking lot of the school. When officers got to the school, they found the man had entered the campus through an open gate and was sitting in the gym and talking to himself.

The man was detained and police say a handgun and knife were found on him.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Daniel Hollander. He allegedly told police that he had been using drugs and went to the school to "cause harm to the children," KOLD-TV reports.

Hollander was booked into jail and is accused of attempted terrorism, interfering with an educational institution, weapons misconduct and burglary.

"The Tucson Police Department extends its deepest gratitude to the parents, staff members of Legacy Traditional, the off-duty officer, and the additional officers from Operations Division East who swiftly responded to address the suspect and prevent a potentially deadly situation," the department said in a statement."
