Move over, pumpkin spice: Search interest in this coffee flavor hit an all-time high

Coffee lovers are ready for fall earlier each year, looking ahead to cozy seasonal flavors before summer even wraps up.

While the Pumpkin Spice Latte remains the top searched latte in the U.S, according to Google Trends data, it’s not the only seasonal latte peaking interest among coffee fans.

According to Google Trends analytics, the "pumpkin spice latte"  was the top trending latte in the U.S. in the past 30 days (+350%), followed by the cardamom latte (+300%) and banana bread latte (+300%), peanut butter latte (+80%) and hazelnut latte (+60%).

Google Trends noted that searches for "when do pumpkin spice lattes come out" usually spike every August, and over the past month, it increased +510%. Search interest in "when does pumpkin spice come out" is also now searched more than ever.

Move over pumpkin, hello banana

But despite pumpkin’s popularity, people are increasingly interested in other flavors.

In a state-by-state comparison, Google Trends found that pumpkin spice lattes led searches in just 3 states the last week of August when compared to chai and matcha, a sharp drop from 32 states in 2025 and 48 states in 2024.

Meanwhile, Matcha lattes led search interest in 29 states over chai latte and pumpkin spice latte.

According to Google Trends analytics, search interest in "banana coffee syrup" also hit an all-time high in August. 

After steadily rising since 2024, the flavor surpassed "pumpkin spice coffee syrup" over the last two years and was searched 2.5 times more the last week of August, according to the data. 

While "caramel apple iced coffee" has seen smaller search spikes each September for the past three years, it is currently at its all-time high, the data also revealed.

Meanwhile, search interest in "pecan crunch latte" was also up +190% so far in August. 

Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte returns

This news comes as the wildly popular Pumpkin Spice Latte returned to menus on August 25.

Starbucks also added new pumpkin spice-flavored drinks, including the Iced Pumpkin Cream Shaken Espresso, Pumpkin Spice Chai and Iced Pumpkin Cream Matcha.
