Trader Joe’s recall: Over 3 million pounds of chicken fried rice products pulled after glass found

Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. has recalled 3,370,530 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products sold at Trader Joe's stores and in Canada because of possible glass contamination.

U.S. Agriculture Department officials reported that no injuries have been reported resulting from consuming the product and the issue was detected after four customers complained of finding glass in the products.

Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc pulled Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice from stores across the country. These frozen products, containing fried rice, vegetables, chicken meat and eggs, are sold in 20-ounce plastic bags.

Additionally, the affected packages have best-by dates of Sept. 8 through Nov. 17, 2026. The products are stamped with the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Separately, the Portland, Oregon-based company also recalled cardboard packages containing six bags of frozen Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Rice with best by dates of Sept. 9 to Nov. 12, 2026. 

U.S. Agriculture Department officials noted that the Trader Joe’s frozen food product was shipped to Trader Joe’s retail stores nationwide and the Ajinomoto item was only sold in Canada.

If I have the Trader Joe’s recalled product, what should I do with it?

What you can do:

Consumers who bought Trader Joe’s or Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Rice are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the store where they were purchased.
