When an officer tried to arrest Lopez, police say he attacked the officer, hitting him with a can of food. The officer suffered a broken cheekbone and vision trouble. Lopez is accused of several charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer.

The bill is named in honor of 14-year-old Emily Pike, who was reported missing from her Mesa group home before being found dead near Globe. The new turquoise alert system would operate the same as Amber Alerts and Silver Alerts, through emergency alerts authorized by federal officials.
